Indian Kosmix challenges Google. Source: Times of India
I read this article two days ago in Times of India, Bangalore. Was very curious to find out about these ” Two Indian engineers, who missed chances twice to buy Google nearly 10 years ago – Courtesy: TOI”. But later I got really busy at work so completely forgot about this. As usual I started my day with the routine checkĀ on all of my social networking sites (they are: facebook/myspace/orkut/twitter) though I already read the updates on my BlackBerry!
Somehow I stumbled upon the twitter page of Kosmix! decided to test this brand new hyped(by TOI!) search engine. Most importantly i wanted to find out how different is this from Google, oh! I forgot to mention that I am a BIG fan of almost all that easy-to-use apps and webtools created by google
OK! I patiently waited for the Kosmix page to load (yes, it did seem a little slow!).

Kosmix Main Page on 11/12/2008
First look at it and not at all impressive design/colors or what ever!
Top level you can find something that looks like a search bar, but the button next to it read EXPLORE! so i assumed that’s what I need to click for searching.
Next there is a field which is meant for TOP STORIES! with news from Yahoo Buzz, Digg, CNN & Technorati in different tabs. Next to it is a small box for “Hot in the Kosmos!” which basically lists random keywords, like Pamela Andreson, Islamabad, Iphone 3g…blah blah… Right below that another small box for “Trending Topics from TWITTER”. followed by something titled Lucky Dip ! apparently LATEST headlines from people.com
and the first headline out there caught my attention – Jennifer Aniston Strips Down for GQ Cover! lol… clicked on it immediately to get a sneak peek of one of my favourite actresses strip
she still looks cute !
OkĀ ok, where was I? yeah the little box “Lucky Dip”
haha… By now I knew what to expect in the boxes below:
1 for popular videos from hulu, youtube, vimeo & flickr.
Next box for daily deals from, dealnews, amazon etc…
Now I am confused, I thought it was a search engine which will revolutionize the way we search/browse the net. But here what i see is a website that looks pretty much like a normal BLOG with lots of widgets added !!
Suddenly the realization came that, i haven’t tried the search engine above! what a fool I am! ain’t I? came here to check out the new search protal, saw and commented about everything but the search engine!!!
Quickly scrolled up, typed CCVP, Cisco bangalore in the search field (yea, one of my friend wanted more info about this certification from CISCO) and then clicked the EXPLORE button!
Bang!!! it was very fast, there comes the top FIVE results.. pretty impressive!
Heyyy wait a min… am i reading it wrong?? WEB SEARCH FROM GOOGLE???? WTF?????
